Mrs. Dorothy Jean Smith Ware age 77 a former resident of Howard Street in Belington and more recently a resident of Valentine’s Personal Care Home in Elkins departed this life Saturday afternoon February 28th,2015,in the Hospice Care Corporation Facility on Diamond Street in Elkins.

She was born August 12th, 1937 at Belington a daughter of the late Woodrow Walter and Ada Georgeanne England Smith.

On January 18, 1958, she was united in marriage to the late William Howard “Bill” Ware who preceded her in death on March 15, 2011.

She is survived by one daughter, Melissa Hunt and husband Michael of Radford VA., two grandchildren, Mckenzie Hunt and Tyler Hunt and his fiancé Ashley Linkous all of Radford, VA.

Additional survivors include one sister Linda K. Ware and husband Gary of Belington, one daughter- in-law Lori Ware of Greensburg PA, a sister-in-law Barbara Sturm and husband Jerry of Porterwood, WV, a brother-in-law Bert Loar of Alliance OH., three aunts Marie Morrison and husband Earnest, Rachel O’Brien, and Agnes England all of Belington.

Nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son Rodney Mark Ware, and one grandchild Logan Alexander Hunt.

Mrs. Ware was a 1955 graduate of the Belington High School and attended the Tri-County Vocational School where she received her LPN degree and the Davis and Elkins College where she received her RN Degree.

Mrs. Ware started her nursing career at the Memorial General Hospital in Elkins until its closing and then was employed by the Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins from which she retired.

Mrs. Ware was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Belington and was recently made a lifetime member of the Junior Lions Club where she served for many years as secretary.

She was also a former member of the Belington Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies auxiliary, the Belington Emergency Squad as an EMT, and for many years was the Belington Fair Queen Pageant Coordinator.

She also served in the capacity of secretary for the West Virginia Fairs and Festivals Assoc., was an avid WVU football fan and a proud Cancer survivor.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home, 56N Brandenburg Street in Belington from 6-9pm on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, and again on Wednesday from 8am – 11am the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor James “Oz” Gray and the Pastor Herb Bledsoe officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery at Belington.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Junior Lions Club c/o Marshal Reed P.O. Box 189 Belington, WV 26250 or the Hospice Care Corporation,169 Diamond Street Elkins WV 26241.
