“John was born in Danville, Pa, and later moved his family to Elmira, NY. He was the son of John and Mary Ware; husband of Phoebe (nee Frame); father to Anna, John Theodore, Infant, Harry “Henry” W., Infant, Elizabeth L. Bechtel and George C. and grandfather to many. John served his country as a sgt. in the U.S. Army 132nd Infantry and 182nd Volunteers during the Civil War. He was wounded in the battle at Antitam.”
