“Mehitable Babcock was born in Alburg, Grand Isle County, Vermont, the daughter of Simon Babcock and Elizabeth (Betsy) Mott.

Mehitable married Preserved Ware in 1836, and moved to Santa Rosa in 1868.

Mehitable was the mother of eight children, Sarah Caroline married Rev. Charles C. Gillette; Charlotte married Robert C. Ball; Charles P. Ware; Honorable Allison Burr Ware, married Lilla Werlein and was elected District Attorney in 1879; a fifth child died in infancy; Emma L., who married Alexander McNee; Henry William married Carrie A Wiliamson; and Mehitable “Mettie”, who married W. F. Jones.”
