Died at Courthouse Square Hospital, Knoxville, TN
Age 25
“Oct 24, 1862 The Army of the Mississippi retreated from Perryville with practically no tents or blankets. Many of the troops collapsed under hardships of bad weather, little food, and polluted water. Typhoid, scurvy, dysentery, and pneumonia put hundreds in the hospital.
October 26-November 2, 1862 Five inches of snow fell on the 26th. The army was given food and better uniforms to replace their lice infected rags. They spent their time resting, cleaning up, and trying to stay warm.
November 3-7, 1862 Early afternoon, the brigade marched through Knoxville and set up camp on the railroad five miles south of town.”
Milton Ware died on November 6, 1862. William Mizell, another Twiggs Rifle soldier, died on November 7, 1862, in University Hospital, Knoxville.”
