Sidney Jackson Ware, Sr. passed away at his home on May 2, 2012.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 5, 2012 with visitation on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Sparta.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ware was born in Sparta, Tennessee on September 26, 1917.
He is survived by four children, 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His children and their families are Sidney Jackson, Jr. and Brenda Mackie Ware; Stephen Ray Sr. and Sally Kincaid Ware; Martha Mary Jane Ware; and Richard Lynn and Ronda Raye Ware. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Douglas Allen and Susan Elizabeth Ware Bullock and Jackson Talmadge Bullock and Elizabeth Grace Bullock; Michael Elliston and Sarah Katherine Ware Burgin and Katherine Linden Burgin and Violet Elliston Burgin; Sidney Jackson III and Leslie Poole Ware, and Sidney Jackson Ware, IV; Stephen Ray Jr. and Sheryl Rae Ware, and Stephen Ray Ware, III; Allen and Rebecca Grace Ware Atchley and Olivia Grace Atchley, Emma Ray Atchley and Caroline Parker Atchley; Christopher and Amanda Fowler White and Caden Clayton White; Joseph Farris and Catherine Michelle Henson Wallace; William Gabriel “Gabe” and Stefanie Bouchillon Powell and William Grayson Powell; Joshua Adam and Martha Ruth Powell Hite and Andrew Gabriel Hite and Jude Waters Hite.
Mr. Ware was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Joyce Ray Ware; his parents, Shelah Rhea and Mary Jane “Mamie” Jackson Ware, Sr.; step-mother, Vera Howard Ware; his siblings Martha “Toots” Ware Poston, Mary Jane Ware Webb, Shelah Rhea “Bud” Ware, Jr. and Benjamin Howard Ware.
Jack Ware attended the University of Tennessee before joining the Navy during WWII, commissioned as a Naval Aviator. He continued to serve his country for 28 years as a pilot in the Tennessee National Guard, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He was a successful businessman making Ware Oil Company a part of the community in Sparta and surrounding area for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
