“Thelma Mae Gravitt Ware, 94, of Athens, went to her heavenly home on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at NHC Health Care of Athens following a brief illness.
A native of Evensville, and a resident of McMinn County for most of her life, she was born Nov. 9, 1916, to the late Ollie and Mayme Kimbrough Gravitt, and was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Sanford Oren Ware, on Sept. 3, 2004; one son, Donald Lynn Ware, on June 12, 2008; one granddaughter, Kelly Ware; one sister, Marie Pelfrey; and two brothers, Paul Gravitt and R.E. Gravitt.
A member of East Athens Baptist Church, she served her Lord faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and adult choir member and enjoyed singing with her late husband. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, Glenn and Priscilla Ware of Athens, Ga., Larry and Terry Ware of Lenoir City, and Carole Ware of Athens; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jonathan Ware, David and Eden Ware, Jason and Sonya Ware, Brett Ware, Chris and Kim Ware and Stephanie Ware; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Swafford and Mildred Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Athens Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 446, Athens, TN 37371-0446.
