“John Dale Ware of Jackson, 84, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, September 6, 2009.
Visitation will take place at Alta Woods Baptist Church on Thursday, September 10, 2009, between 9:30-11:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Dr. Frank Thomas and Reverend Sidney Johnston will preside. Graveside service is 2 p.m. Thursday at Bezer Cemetery (Liberty Bpt Church) in Raleigh, MS.
Mr. Ware was born on Sept. 10, 1924 in Raleigh, Smith County Mississippi.
He attended both primary and High School in Raleigh and graduated from Raleigh High School in 1943.
He joined the Army Air Corps Oct. 1, 1943 and was assigned to the 15th Air Force where he served with distinction. He flew 22 combat missions in B-17s in Europe and the Mediterranean. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf clusters and the WWII Victory Medal. He separated from the Air Force in Sept. 1945 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He then attended Mississippi State University where he received a BS degree in Agricultural Management in 1949. He was a life long member of the Mississippi State Alumni Association and the Sigma Pi fraternity.
Mr. Ware was recalled to active duty in the Korean War Oct. 3, 1950. He served as an instructor at Fort Jackson, NC and later as a squad and platoon leader in the 2nd Infantry Division. For his service he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal of Honor and the Korean Service Medal.
Mr. Ware worked for the US Department of Agriculture for 37 years. During his career, he worked with farmers on the coast to assist them in disaster recovery- most notably, Hurricane Fredrick. He retired in 1987.
Mr. Ware was preceded in death by his parents, John Bunyum Ware and Nola Bryant Ware; and his sister, Merl Grace Wade.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lola Emmaline Worrell Ware; sons, John Dale Ware Jr. of Highland Village, Texas and James R. Ware of Jackson; a brother, John Lafayette Ware of Pascagoula, MS; and a sister, Ruby Gaye Ware Broxson of Pensacola, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
The Ware family have been long time members of Alta Woods Baptist Church in South Jackson since 1968.”
