“Rachel was the daughter of Samuel Wilson McCormick and Elizabeth “Bettie” Ayers. The family migrated to Texas between 1878 and 1880, settling in Denton County. After the death of her parents in the 1880’s, Rachel and the younger children were reared by their older siblings, moving by then to Travis County. Rachel kept house for several years for her older brothers. She married John Howard Ware in 1901 in Travis County. During the Depression, the family moved to the Cockrell Hill area of Dallas County. Rachel and John later moved to Houston to be near their youngest daughter and her family. Rachel and John were the parents of six children.”
