“Thomas Ware, 58, Nurseryman, Dies
Thomas Cleveland Ware, 58, widely known Houston nurseryman who founded and operated the nursery bearing his name here for 25 years, succumbed to an illness of several months Tuesday, Aug. 19. He died at the Houston Hospital.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 20, at 3 pm, at the Bethel Baptist Church where he was a member. The Rev. Fred Jolly, and the Rev. J E Rogers officiated. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery with the new Houston National Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were: Durell Harrington, Willard Eaton, Floyd Stallings, Melvin Bennett, Woodrow Brand, Thomas Odie Martin and Evans Dendy.
Honorary pallbearers were: Box Harrington, Cap Nixon, Howard Davis, Gus Gordon, B C Hill, Doss Lowry, Emmett Dendy, Sid Dendy, Dr. John Dyer, Dr. Thomas Gore, Odis Murrah, Dick Smith, L J Goodgame, Ed Dendy and Armis Hawkins.
Members of the Flower Committee were: Mrs. Howard Davis, Mrs. Lottie Gordon, Mrs. Grace Scott, Mrs. Anna Dendy, Mrs. Opal Gore, Mrs. Zola Warnick, Mrs. Jewel Johns, Mrs. Bessie Saxon, Mrs. Lola Naron, Mrs. Jolly, Mrs. Pearl Denday, Mrs. Ed Dendy, Mrs. Lucille Dendy, Mrs. Lucille Townsend, Mrs. Lula Mae Carlyle, Mrs. Wayne Johnson.
He was born in the old Ware residence South of Houston.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lorene Ware of Houston, two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Eaton and Mrs. Tony Sepulveda, both of Houston; three brothers, Floyd of Woodland, Allen of Houston and Pascal of Hamilton, Miss.; five sisters, Mrs. Corrine Springer of Columbus, Miss., Mrs. Sidney Andrews of Beaumont, Tex., Mrs. Theron Bryant of Taylorsville, Miss., and Mrs. Cecil Nabors and Mrs. Sid Naron, both of Houston. Two grandchildren also survive.”
