“Weldon Wallace Ware at the age of 21 was killed when he went down with the U.S.S. Astoria as it sank near Guadalcanal in WWII. He was a gunner. The ship sank in what is now called “Iron Bottom Sound”, in recognition of all the ships that were lost there.”
