Gwendolyn Rebecca Campbell Ware WALTERBORO – Gwendolyn Rebecca Campbell Ware, 82, widow of the late Charles Bethea Ware Jr., died Tuesday March 12, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, SC. A wake will be held from 6-8 Friday night at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home in Walterboro. A Jehovah’s Witness, Rebecca’s funeral service will be Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 843 Bedon Road, Walterboro, SC. Elder Joseph Bowman will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Baptist Church #2 Cemetery in Givhans. The first-born child of the late Trenholm Kermiller Campbell and Edna Marie Smallwood Campbell, Becky was born July 26, 1930 in Smithville, Mississippi in the Methodist Parsonage (The home of her maternal grandparents, the late Rev. and Mrs. Titus W. Smallwood). Early childhood was spent on the family farm in Givhans. The family moved to Walterboro in 1938. A graduate of Walterboro High School (Class of ’49) and Winthrop College (Class of ’53), Rebecca taught in public and private schools in North Charleston, Walterboro, Hampton, and Ehrhardt. She was a Reference Librarian at Colleton County Memorial Library when she retired in 1993. Becky’s love of history and family made her a natural genealogist. The Campbell and Smallwood families are indebted to her for the family records she preserved. Full of love and Kindness, she was a great listener and a good friend. Storytelling was a talent and her memory was impressive. Her home was always open and welcoming. Rebecca married Charlie Ware December 24, 1953 in Salem United Methodist Church, Hendersonville, SC. They shared 43 years together. Charlie died January 3, 1996. Widowed 16 years, Becky will laid to rest beside him. “Becks” (her grandmother name) is survived by: her children, Jeannine Charlotte Ware, Charles Bethea Ware III (Donna Lynn Phifer), and Sarah Martha Emily “Sallie” Ware Turner (George Randolph “Randy” Turner), all of Walterboro; her grandchildren, Charles Jared Morris of Mooresville, NC and Tyler Joshua Ware (Christina “Chrissy” Fisher) of Raleigh, NC; two great granddogs, Charleston Morris and Chamois Ware; her sisters, Patricia Anne Campbell Todd (Dekle Dean Todd, Sr.) of Wadley, GA, Nelle Jeannine Campbell Gahagan (James Bernard Gahagan III) of Walterboro and Camilla “Cammie” Bush; and her sisters-in-law, Teresa Lynn “Terry”Beach Campbell of Walterboro and Mabel Ware Baggett of Due West; her brothers-in-law, Lowery Price Ware of Due West and Gene R. Ware (Shirley Harmon) of Due West, SC.
