Dorothea Ware Langmaid Obituary, 1995

Dorothea Ware Langmaid, 86, died Saturday after a lingering illness. A winter resident of Marco Island, Fla., for 20 years, she had lived at Falmouth Foreside for more than 60 years. She was born in Concord, Mass., a daughter of Charlotte Lindsay and George Long Ware. She was a graduate of Buckingham School in Cambridge, Mass., and Wheelock College in Boston. After graduation she was an assistant kindergarten teacher at Concord Academy before moving to Maine. In 1932 she married John F. Langmaid Jr. of Swampscott, Mass., who was employed by the S.D. Warren Company for 39 years. Mrs. Langmaid was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, the First Parish Church of Portland and the Portland Country Club. She was a golfer, sailor and accomplished ballroom dancer and bridge player. She participated in two sewing bees and bridge clubs. A son, John F. Langmaid III, died in 1987. Surviving are her husband of Falmouth; three daughters, Mrs. Cary (Happy) Bradford of Waterville, Charlotte L. Langmaid of San Francisco and Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Loth of Edwards, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Chartis B. Langmaid of Cohasset, Mass.; a brother, J. Lindsay Ware of Woods Hole, Mass; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Parish Church of Portland. Arrangements are by the Hay Funeral Home, Westbrook.
