Joel B. Ware, 81, a retired executive of Greenwich Health Examiners and a decorated World War II veteran, died April 30 at his Goshen home. Ware was born Sept. 3, 1924 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a graduate of Culver Military Academy, the University of Illinois and received an M.A. degree from Fairfield University. During his career, Ware was publisher of Cowles Communications, publishing director of Bettendorf Publications and VP of Greenwich Health Examiners. He was a decorated veteran of WWII, serving with the 100th Division, a member of the National Defense Executive Reserve and a member of the Torrington Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Melody Spero Ware of Goshen, formerly of Westport; two stepdaughters, Kelly Hitt of Westport and Heather Hitt-Ricord of Los Angeles; one stepson, Brendan Hitt of New York; and two daughters, Pamela Ware and Linda Zagar, both of North Carolina.
