Kentucky, FRANKFORT – Lucy Ware Chapman, 99, died Aug 13 at her daughter’s home. Visitation Mon, 4-6pm at First Baptist Church, St. Clair St., Frankfort. Service following at 6pm. Burial at Lexington Cemetery, Tue, 10am. Dr. David Hinson will officiate. She was born Nov 16, 1909, in Woodford County, and grew up in Lexington and Eastern Fayette County. She graduated from University High, in Lexington, and studied at U.K. where she received a B.A. degree in English and Library Science and a M.A. degree in Library Science. While at UK, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was the daughter of the late Krille Hamilton Ware and Lucy Ferguson Coons Ware, and was married to the late Morris W. Chapman on June 20, 1935. Two brothers preceded her in death, Lester and Clifton Ware. She was a librarian at Centre College, Danville, and later Director of Information and Loan in the KY Dept. of Libraries and Archives, Frankfort, until her retirement in 1974. She was a long-term member of the Pollyanna Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the KY Genealogical Society, a member of the KY Historical Society, Susannah Hart Shelby Chapter of the DAR, and the Women’s Club of Frankfort. She had a lifelong interest in genealogy and was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy C. Watkins (Dick), Frankfort; granddaughters, Beth W. McLemore (Kent), Suffolk, VA, and Ginger M. Watkins, Lexington, and great granddaughters, Hannah and Chloe Jeffers. Pallbearers will be Lester Carroll Ware, Carroll Darnaby Ware, Mark Ware, Robert Chapman, David Nicol Chapman, Richard Chapman, and Gordon Rodgers III. Honorary pallbearers are Emma Quire, Jewel Durrett, Gene Rose, Pat King and members of the Pollyanna Sunday School Class.
