Nell Ware Tomko Obituary, 2010

CHEROKEE SPRINGS, SC– Nell Ware Tomko, 93, formerly of Cherokee Springs, died January 9, 2010 at Camp Care. Born February 15, 1916 in Cherokee Springs, she was the daughter of the late Lawerence and Annie Warren Ware. She was first married to the late Sam Burgess and then later married the late Carl Tomko. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a nurse for Dr. Crow in Cowpens and also in Camden at the nursing home. She and her second husband bought Caro Mi Lodge in Tryon, NC and ran it until they retired. She was a member of Cherokee Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include two grandsons, Mike Burgess of Florida and Mark Burgess of Boiling Springs; a step-son, Chuck Tomko of Phoenix, AZ.; a brother, Bill Ware of Cherokee Springs; four great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Sammy Burgess; two brothers, Jessie Ware and Jody Ware; two sisters, Vivian Williams and Annie Lou Ware.

Visitation will be 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Cherokee Springs Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church conducted by the Rev. Bill Lark. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home of her brother.
