“Clara Davis Ware was born on December 24, 1913 in Morriston, Ark. to the late Marion William Davis & Sarah Effie Williams Davis. She departed this life on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Malden.

When she was young she rode a horse to school. It was a race horse and she had to keep it away from other horses, because when it saw another horse it would take off in a racing pace. Also when she was young, not being afraid of spiders and stinging insects, she would gather honey by wiping the bees off the honeycomb with a feather. Clara moved to Malden in 1933 and became a member of the First Christian Church that year. She graduated from Malden High School in 1934. She worked for the Malden Post Office and had to wear hip boots to get across the ditches to deliver the mail.

In the early 1940’s a young railroad man named William R. Ware would come into the post office. Clara had her sights set on him because she knew he would be a good catch. He collected stamps and she would save the most perfect stamp blocks for him. She could find out when he was in town by checking his mailbox to see when it was empty. Then she would make a point of showing up at his favorite restaurant, where she knew he would be having supper. They were married in Stuttgart, ARK. On April 10, 1943.

He preceded her in death on November 7, 1982.In 1945 she and Mr. Ware welcomed a son, William R. Ware, III, into the world, and in 1947 a daughter named Sally Ware.

For several years during the 1950’s she was a leader of a boy scout troop. She also volunteered at the elementary school for many things such as audiology testing. From 1968 through 1971 she and Mr. Ware lived in Lufkin, Texas, where he was vice president of a railroad.Clara was always active in the Christian Church. Through the years she baked so many pies and cookies for the church and her many friends that it would fill a gymnasium. Her hobbies include playing bridge, working in the yard and visiting with her friends.

Clara had 2 grandchildren, daughters of Bill and Judy Ware. They are Mrs. Jeremiah Settles (Julia Ware) and Amy Ware. She also has 2 great-grandchildren, Jadyn and Ellie Settles. On one Mother’s Day, the church was giving little violets to the youngest and oldest mothers present. Clara used to lie about her age, so when they got to the award for the oldest mother, she sat silently while another woman received the award. When she got home her granddaughter Amy asked her why had she lied in church, and she quipped, “That puny little violet wasn’t worth telling my age!”

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 5 sisters & 4 brothers.

Interment in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart, AR. Landess”
