Laura Maxine Ware, 89, and a resident of Las Vegas for the past 52 years, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017, in Las Vegas.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1928, to Leonard H. King and LuVerta Thompson King in Anson, Texas.
She was united in marriage to William A. Ware on Aug. 3, 1947, in Plainview, Texas.
She was a life-long Southern Baptist and a member of Rociada Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Ware and infant son, John Carl Ware.
She is survived by her son, Paul Ware, of Las Vegas; daughters, Margaret C’ de Baca and husband, Don, of Las Vegas, and Kathy Franken and husband, Alan, of Las Vegas; sisters and brothers, Avenol Brunson of Dallas, Verna Tucker and husband, Bob, of Titusville, Fla.; Deryl King and wife, Patsy, of Holly Lake, Texas, Mary Vickers of Plainview, Texas, Leonard King and wife, Sue, of Denver; grandchildren, Jeff Franken of Albuquerque, Daniel Franken of Los Angeles, and Julie Franken of Phoenix; sisters-in-law, Barbara Freeman and husband, Errol, of Holly Lake, Texas, Lottie Whitaker of Dallas, Texas, and Susana King of Terre Haute, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maxine was an elementary school teacher for 19 years at the Las Vegas City Schools and for several years in Texas prior to moving to Las Vegas. She was a devoted Christian and taught Sunday School and mission class for most of her adult life. She was an accomplished musician and played the piano and sang in the church choir at most of the churches her husband pastored.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Mountain View Fellowship (First Baptist Church) in Las Vegas, with Pastor Owen Young of Rociada Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are her grandchildren Julie, Daniel and Jeff Franken; her sons-in-law, Alan Franken and Don C’de Baca; and family friend, Tom McGahan. Honorary pallbearers are devoted caregiver, Cecilia Sotelo, and special friend, Ayden Schaefer.
Flowers have not been omitted; but in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rociada Baptist Church, Casa por Cristo Fund.
