Annie Ware Burney Obituary

February 18, 1936 – January 24, 2018 Annie Ruth Ware Burney was born in San Antonio, Texas to Russell Henry Ware and Ruth Hermione Norton Ware. Annie played French Horn in Harlandale High School Band and the state youth orchestra. She attended San Antonio College. She married Gary Mack Burney. Their two children survive her: Jeanette Burney Sullivan and Gregory Douglas Burney. Annie and Gary sang in St. Mark’s Methodist Choir and sponsored Older Youth Fellowship (OYF). Annie played a mean first base for the church women’s softball team, which won the 1974 city championship. Loving Texas history, she traced her family to San Jacinto hero William Ware, joined the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and was Alamo Hostess for thirty years. She gave tours to international tourists and celebrities like Cary Grant and Canada Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.
