Janet A (Jones) Ware, 84, of Middleburg, Florida, formerly of Wesley Chapel, Florida lost her yearlong battle with cancer and died peacefully in her sleep at Acosta-Rua Center Community Hospice 5450 Ramona Blvd Jacksonville, Florida on March 5, 2018. She is predeceased by her parents, Roy D. Bachelor and Ida Marie (Grant) Bachelor and her late husband, William H Ware of Zephyrhills, Florida and her three sisters, Marcella (Russ) Lebbon, Lalah (Ray) Bauer and Bettie (Howard) Maynard.
Janet was born on September 13, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from East Detroit High School in 1951. As a trained bookkeeper, Janet worked for a number of corporations including Big Powderhorn Mountain Ski Resort in Bessemer, Michigan, several insurance firms, the Florida State Fair Authority and really enjoyed her last job where she worked as a sample server at Sam’s Club in New Tampa, Florida.
As the youngest of for girls, her father raised her as a tomboy and consequently became a ferocious sports fan, especially for her native Detroit Redwings and her favorite adopted team, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Janet was an avid golfer and she and her deceased husband, Bill Ware, would travel around Florida and the Southeast United States in order to play as many different courses as they were able. They especially enjoyed their numerous trips to watch the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. Janet also loved to travel and was extremely grateful to have been able to take extended excursion to Hawaii and Alaska and talked about her experiences there as one of the highlights of her life.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela (George) Gretton of Middleburg, Florida, two sons, Roy (Barbara) Jones, Davenport, Florida and Dr. Kenneth (Dawn) Jones, Vinings, Georgia. Granddaughters, Nicole (John) LaFleur, Davenport, Florida, Dr. Stephanie (Steven) Lemos, Woodstock, Georgia, Katherine (Michael) Nelson, New Tampa, Florida Leann (Ruben) Gonzalez, Orange Park, Florida, Amy Gretton, Jacksonville, Florida, Lizzy Gretton, Middleburg, Florida, Grandsons, Derek Jones, Davenport, Florida, Daniel (Melissa) Jones, Hudsonville, Michigan, Thomas (Kaela) Duval Williamston, South Carolina and 20 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery on May 21, 2018 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or give online at support.communityhospice.com.
