Betty Jean Eagle Ware, 76, of Rustburg passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at her residence.
Born in Lynchburg, August 9, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Massie Odell Eagle and Virgie Phillips Eagle. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy O. Eagle and Robert A. Eagle.
Survivors include her son, James Gregory Ware and his wife Billie Jo and her daughter, Cathy Ware Glass all of Rustburg; one sister, Edith Simmons and husband Fred of Lynchburg; five brothers, James Eagle and wife Patsy and Preston Eagle and wife Peggy all of Lynchburg, Ronald Eagle and wife Linda, Glenn Eagle and wife Theresa and Kenneth Eagle and wife Valerie all of Rustburg; one sister-in-law, Nita Eagle of Rustburg; three grandsons, James Thomas Glass, III and wife Cordelia of Ellsworth AFB, SD, Adam Gregory Ware and Grayson Edward Ware both of Rustburg and a great granddaughter, Eva Glass. She is also survived by a cousin and special member of her family, Sammy Phillips of Lynchburg.
Betty was a 1957 graduate of Brookville High School where she was a star basketball player. She was voted “Queen of Basketball” and most athletic her senior year. Betty retired from the Rustburg High School cafeteria where she had worked for many years. She loved gardening and had an amazing ability of finding four leaf clovers. She was a longtime member of Perkins Park Christian Church until its closing and then became a faithful viewer of Thomas Road Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and she was very proud of her three grandsons.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at White’s United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Chapman officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
